Maximizing Efficiency with the Right Lifting Beams

Maximizing Efficiency with the Right Lifting Beams

In the world of material handling and heavy lifting, using the right equipment is crucial for ensuring safety, efficiency, and productivity. Lifting beams play a vital role in various industries, offering stable and secure lifting solutions for loads of different shapes, sizes, and weights.

These indispensable tools provide numerous benefits, such as increased load stability, versatility, and enhanced safety measures. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the different types of lifting beams we have in our fleet (which are all available to rent).

Key Differences in Lifting Beams

When selecting a lifting beam, understanding the primary differences in capacity and length is essential. Generally, longer beams have lower carrying capacities, making it important to choose the right length for your specific lifting needs. Another critical factor is the adjustability of the hooks or lugs at both the top and bottom of the beam.

At LGH, our models feature adjustable bales, enabling precise adjustments to achieve the exact center of gravity. This is especially crucial with center pick lifting beam apparatuses, ensuring the beam correctly bears the weight of the load.

For larger capacity lifting beams, we use thicker, heavier-grade steel to handle increased loads. While these beams can be quite heavy, LGH’s diverse range of lifting beams ensures we can meet various customer requirements, offering both strength and versatility.

LGH enhanced its fleet with the ARS 50-100T Multi-lug low headroom lifting beams. These versatile multi-lug beams, also known as multiple-point beams, can lift up to 100 tonnes and feature a safe, user-friendly design. With multiple lifting points above and below the beam, they support both central lifts and spreader/semi-spreader configurations. This flexibility makes them perfect for heavy loads that require support at multiple points, allowing for precise weight distribution adjustments.

Benefits

The primary benefit of lifting beams is their low-headroom requirement. Each beam is designed to meet specific application needs, offering multiple and adjustable pick points. Lifting beams also eliminate the need for top-rigging, simplifying the lifting process.

Lifting beams are especially useful in applications such as tilt wall construction (for pre-tensioned concrete walls used in large buildings) and other scenarios with limited headroom for lifting loads.

Things to Consider

Keep in mind that beams are not a one-size-fits-all solution. They are not highly versatile pieces of equipment. For instance, they can be quite heavy, and adjusting them to the center of gravity takes time. Additionally, it can be dangerous if you don’t consider this first. Furthermore, if you miscalculate the specifications or the drawings are incorrect, you are stuck with that beam, as it offers no adjustability from that point on. Some beams don’t have any adjustability on top at all, providing only one center pick with perhaps only lower adjustability.

Moreover, because the beam itself bears the weight of the unit you’re lifting, they tend to be large and difficult to store and ship. This is why LGH offers a variety of beams, including those with adjustable length or fixed length, to accommodate all customers. Our beams range from 4 to 100 tons, with the biggest advantages being the adjustability on the top or bottom and their low-headroom profile.

Every project is different so that’s why it’s important to know what type of beam you’ll need and which ones you can rent from LGH today!
