Recently, the Shipbuilders Council of America presented a positive report of the American shipbuilding industry to the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation. The growth of new vessel construction is largely due to the shale boom which is driving the need for more oil tankers. Shipyards are also working to construct technologically advanced vessels such as the first LNG powered container ship which was recently recognized by the White House as the future of maritime transportation.
