LGH has expanded its rental fleet with the addition of headache balls, also known as overhaul balls or crane hook balls. The precision-engineered steel weight headache ball provides essential ballast at the hook end of a crane hoist rope, ensuring smoother, more stable, and safer lifting performance.
Headache balls deliver the downhaul weight required to counter bearing friction and line tension between the winch and boom. In some applications, they can even substitute for a winch. Split headache balls are composed of two cast-iron halves that clamp securely to the line using heavy-duty bolts, providing a reliable, balanced setup for lifting operations.
Manufactured by Crosby, LGH’s headache balls are available in diameters of 7.12 inches (50 lbs.) and 9.19 inches (100 lbs.). Gunnebo Johnson models are also available in 9.50-inch (89 lbs.) and 11.25-inch (154 lbs.) sizes. All units are fully inspected, certified, and available for immediate rental from LGH’s nationwide network of rental centers.
These crane headache balls are vital for maintaining proper line tension and preventing wire rope twisting or spooling.
