4 Quick Tips About the Compression Load Cell

Manufactured by Straightpoint, the compression load cell is a highly accurate device that is used to measure weight or force in a number of different applications. They can be used to measure compression, tension, bending or shear forces. Additionally, they can be used for a broad range of industries including steel fabrication, ship building, structural weighing, shipping and general transportation, to aid in calculating the total mass and center of gravity.

Here are a few quick tips on how to use the compression load cell properly on your next lift.

  1. The Load cell should be placed on a firm, flat surface.                
  1. If using a single load cell place the center of mass over the centerline of the load cell.
  1. Best Wireless performance will be achieved when the Electronics enclosure is facing the direction of the receiving Windows PC or wireless handheld.
  1. It is recommended to check and or replace the batteries before placing the load onto the compressive load cell.

Examples of Applications

A compression load cell can be used in a variety of applications including construction, logistics, marine, oil & gas, shipping, utilities, and more. Below are a few examples of applications in which the load cell was used to lift and weigh.

Here are four compression load cells that were used to lift and weigh a missile tracker. This tracker itself weighed 8,125 lbs, which the load cells calculated correctly.

This is a 36k HV Transformer that required four compression load cells, which correctly calculated the transformer to weigh 43,990 lbs.

This injection molding machine, or an injection press made to manufacture plastic products, was weighed correctly via the compression load cell to be 64,505 lbs.
